I Waved To An Angel
I waved to an angel before teaching
a 40-year old man to read
to raise his self-esteem
and find work to support his family.
I asked the angel to put in
a good word for him.
I waved to an angel before taking blankets,
food and clothes to a homeless family of four.
I begged the angel to find them a home.
I waved to an angel before feeding
chicken broth to a weak, sick child.
Looking into the child's listless eyes,
I pleaded with the angel
to spare her life.
I waved to an angel, my guardian angel,
as I drove along the highway
from feeding the child,
tending the homeless,
tutoring the man.
As my car careened toward a cement wall,
I froze, then prayed to God.
Apply your brakes, my child, said God.
To my surprise, my car stopped inches from the wall.
Oh thank you God, for this miracle!
What miracle? asked the angel.
You asked me for 3 impossible tasks.
When your life was at stake,
you went to The Source.
Can you blame me, I replied.
