CONGRATULATIONS 2005 graduates JOHNATHAN and
JOSHUA WINSTON, two brothers from Massachusetts
who marched together and received
B.S.degrees consecutively from St. John's
University in New York
(This poem is about Johnathan, but I've taken poetic license.)
My Cousin the Chef
His creative hands rinse the haddock fillet
and season with a bit of salt,
oregano and pepper
then thinly sprinkle breadcrumbs
over the fish as it lies supine.
A moderate dose of olive oil
hits the huge skillet
s-c-a-t-t-e-r-i-n-g

Chef John covers the pan
while ingredients work their magic.
He offers me some nestled on a bed of lettuce,
complementing our cerulean blue flowered china.
I bite into the thick, meaty morsel.
AMBROSIA. John, you can cook.
He smiles his captivating teen smile
then wolfs down
the remaining pound of haddock.
