THE PASSENGER

Scrunched up ruddy-faced
Old man
Thinning grey hair
Brown, nylon bomber jacket
Grey wool scarf
Grey polyester pants
White paper bag -- f-l-o-a-t-i-n-g
Croissant
Coffee

Opens bag gingerly
Sets coffee down
On blue bus seat
Removes lid
Reaches into bag
Sets sugar and
Stirrer down
Carefully empties two sugars
Into coffee
Stirs
Puts wrappers
And stirrers into bag

Blows coffee
Slowly sips
Sets coffee down
Eats croissant

Throws head back
Continues sipping coffee
Crosses legs
Catches my eye and winks
