When I Am Old
When I am old
I'd like to rollerblade
on the streets of Westport
in an orange and purple leotard
with a bare midriff, balancing
a white chicken atop my head
I'd like to wear torn blue jeans and sneakers
and a low-cut red blouse
one Sunday and sit in the choir
I'd join a circus
somersault on elephants' backs
and soar on the flying trapeze
with Denzel Washington
I'd like to straddle the ball
in Times Square and drop down
when everyone shouts
Happy New Year
Pop out of a big cakebox
at a bachelor party and say
Surprise, big boy
